Quest exists to provide pastoral support to lesbian, gay and transgender Catholics. We provide information(at this site and by a regular magazine, an annul conference, and opportunities for worship, spiritual retreats and supportive fellowship through our local groups.
Through our meetings with local bishops and other Catholic leaders, we promote LGBT inclusion in the life of the Church. Conversely, we also meet with other LGBT groups to promote a more rounded understanding of faith, and the possibility of one being both Catholic and openly LGBT.
In 2016, several of our members trained with Stonewall as role models, going into Catholic Stonewall School Champions talk about our lives as lesbian, gay or trans Catholics. In 2017, we joined as partners in a Stonewall project to conduct training in Catholic schools on combating homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
We neither endorse nor reject specific Catholic teaching on sexual ethics, promoting instead a fuller understanding of the full range of Catholic teaching. These include matters of conscience, the levels of Catholic teaching, the importance of social justice and inclusion for all, and Pope Francis’ emphasis in Amoris Laetitia on the principles of discernment and accompaniment in pastoral care.
From our constitution:
Quest is a group for lesbian, gay and bisexual Catholics. Its purpose is to proclaim the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ so as to sustain and increase Christian belief among homosexual men and women.
Membership is open to all who share Quest’s aims, regardless of sexual orientation or religious affiliation. Transgender persons should feel themselves especially welcome.
Quest was established and is led by lay Catholics; however, clergy and religious are welcome to join and support the organisation.
Participation in the activities of local Quest groups does not require membership of national Quest. However, as a member of Quest you will be able to contribute more fully to the pastoral and evangelising ministry of the organisation both within the Church and in wider society – to make the world a better place for all.
Quest is a Registered Charity (no. 294388)
